Funeral Service for Richard L. Strobel

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona.

Dick’s Story

Mr. Richard “Dick” Lee Strobel was the son of the late Leonard Strobel and Lillian Kuntz Strobel.  His sunrise began on November 12, 1935, and he finished his journey at sunset on May 18, 2025. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he graduated from Washington High School.

He was married to Nancy O’Brien. The two first met when he was 16 years old, at the Sherman movie theater where he worked as an usher. Their friendship grew stronger as they attended events together in high school. They were united in holy matrimony on May 10, 1958, and recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They were later blessed with three children: Marcy, Bob, and Larry.

Dick made his professional career in aeronautics and engineering. Dick served in the Airforce from 1955 to 1959 as a radar technician stationed in the Azores. After his military service, he received a certificate from MIT and began working as an engineer for NASA on the Apollo program. He was acknowledged for advancing the nation's capabilities in aeronautics and the successful achievement of man’s first landing on the moon in 1969. He worked as a Senior Project Technician at General Motors for over 30 years, where he made many lifelong friends.

Dick had a passion for life, a warm smile, and a fantastic sense of humor. Each morning, he would wake up with a pep in his step and was always whistling a joyful tune. Many special memories were made with his friends and family. He enjoyed summer boating days with his grandchildren, Bryan and Christine. Dick loved to travel with his sweetheart Nancy and explore new places including a family trip to Alaska for their 60th wedding anniversary. 

When he retired, he built a family cabin in Show Low, Arizona. We created many adventures there, hiking, four-wheeling, and enjoying nature. He loved to bowl, golf, and tell stories. He played the accordion and the organ and loved music, and in his later years enjoyed baking and bird watching in his garden. 

His extraordinary life will forever be cherished, and he will be truly missed. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy; his daughter, Mrs. Marcy L. McFaul (& Bill), his sons; Mr. Robert S. Strobel (& Andrea) and Mr. Lawrence A. Strobel (& Jennifer), his grandchildren; Mr. Bryan R. McFaul and Mrs. Christine L. Caven (& Matt) and a host of devoted family and friends.
